I’m always looking for tasty vegetable side dishes that have something a little extra to offer in terms of flavor.  These Keto Creole Green Beans get a savory flavor boost from the bacon and a sweet note from the brown sugar substitute plus a little color from the addition of bell peppers and stewed tomatoes.  All in, they’re a delicious flavor combination that makes a fantastic (and pretty easy) side for a dinner party or any night of the week!

  • Kosher Salt
  • Worcestershire Sauce

Getting Started with Making Keto Creole Green Beans

These Keto Creole Green Beans are pretty easy to make.

Vegetable Prep

First we’ll get started by preparing the vegetables.  If you’re using fresh green beans, you’ll want to trim off the ends and cut them into roughly 2 – 3 inch pieces.  Then you can set them aside and dice 1 cup of Onion and 1 cup of Bell Pepper (any color).  You’ll set them aside too.

In the event that you’re using canned green beans, you’ll need to drain them.

Cooking the Keto Creole Green Beans

You’ll start the cooking with 12 ounces of bacon in a large sauté pan over medium high heat.  You can either chop the bacon before or after cooking.  I usually do it after cooking and use kitchen shears, but it really doesn’t matter.  After you’ve cooked the bacon, you’ll want to remove it to a paper towel-lined plate but leave the grease in the pan.

Then, in the same pan, we’ll sauté the chopped Onions and Bell Peppers until softened (about 6 – 8 minutes).  After that, we can add in 28 ounces of Stewed Tomatoes (undrained), ¼ cup of Swerve Brown, 1 teaspoon of Ground Black Pepper, ½ teaspoon of Dry Mustard, ½ teaspoon of Kosher Salt, and 2 tablespoons of Worcestershire Sauce.  You’ll stir to combine everything as it cooks.  Finally, you’ll add in the Green Beans, stir well, cover, and cook until they’re tender (about 10 minutes).  We’ll add in the chopped bacon at the end.
