Incredibly easy and super delicious, these Bacon-Wrapped Low Carb BBQ Hot Dog Bites are one of my favorite kinds of finger foods. They are an easy crowd-pleaser that requires a minimal number of ingredients and low effort. You’ve got to try them for your next dinner party or appetizer spread!
What You Need to Make Bacon-Wrapped Low Carb BBQ Hot Dog Bites
Ingredients
- Hot Dogs – Feel free to to off-road and use something like spicy andouille or flavored brats.
- Bacon – You’ll want Medium or Thin cut for this recipe. While I love thick cut bacon, it takes too long to get crispy in these situations compared to the hot dog.
- Sugar Free BBQ Sauce – You can pick any flavor you like. I like the Maple flavor for this recipe.
Equipment
- Cutting Board
- Chef’s Knife
- 2 Rimmed Baking Sheets
- 2 Wire Rack Inserts
- Heavy Duty Aluminum Foil
- 96 Toothpicks – While you could possibly get away without using the toothpicks, I find it much easier to move the bites around with them. Plus that way, they’re already there for serving.
Getting Started with Making Bacon-Wrapped Low Carb BBQ Hot Dog Bites
These Bacon-Wrapped Low Carb BBQ Hot Dog Bites are so easy to make, I suspect you could figure it out without my help. Nonetheless, I’d advise paying attention to some of the mechanics listed below to streamline your process.
Pro Tips:
- Line your rimmed baking sheet with wide heavy duty aluminum foil for easier cleanup.
- Brush the 1st layer of Sugar Free BBQ Sauce on the wrapped hot dogs before you slice them into bites and stick in the toothpicks.
- Use a Convection Roast setting if your oven has one.
Pre-Work
Because the assembly process is pretty straightforward, you’ll want to line 2 rimmed baking sheets with heavy duty aluminum foil and insert the Wire Racks before you start working with the food. You can also preheat the oven to 400°F or use the Convection Roast setting at 375°F.
Assembling the Bacon-Wrapped Low Carb BBQ Hot Dog Bites
To make the bites, you’ll start by wrapping 24 Hot Dogs each in a slice of Bacon. I suggest using medium or thin cut bacon. Then you need to brush each wrapped hot dog with Sugar Free BBQ Sauce. Doing this now means that you don’t have to work around the toothpicks.
Then we can slice each wrapped Hot Dog into 4 equal pieces, stick a toothpick in each bite, and place it on one of the wire racks.
Baking
If you have a Convection Roast setting on your oven, you’ll bake the bites at 375°F. If not, you’ll bake them at 400°F. Put them in for 20 minutes and then check them. You want the bacon to be starting to crisp up. However, the exact timing can vary based on your oven and the thickness of the bacon you use.
Once they’re done, you’ll remove them from the oven and give them another quick brush of the Sugar Free BBQ Sauce.
Serve warm. If you need to hold these until your guests arrive, you can either leave them on the rimmed baking sheet or transfer them to a casserole dish and pop them in the oven on “Warm” (180°F).
